Aunt Fortune was born in 1912 in Istanbul, Turkey, to Eliya and Zimbul Gambash. She had two brothers (Nisim and Mordo) and sister (Regina). Her other name was Mazaltov.

She immigrated at a young age to France and settled in La Roche-Sur-Foron.

She married Uncle Isaac Negri in La Roche-Sur-Foron, and they had two sons: Eli and Morris.

During World War II, they luckily survived the Nazi aggression against Jews thanks to the non-Jewish neighbours who gave shelter.
